Overview
This article covers two common R2T4 scenarios handled by the CI Financial Aid Team: reversing Pell funds for a student who never attended, and understanding which program types are affected by the new R2T4 regulations effective July 1, 2026.
Scenario 1: Student Received Pell but Never Attended
If a student was disbursed Pell funds but never attended the program, the funds must be reversed. This is not a standard R2T4 calculation — it is a full reversal because the student had no qualifying attendance.
- Confirm with the school that the student never attended (no attendance record, no class participation).
- Submit a ticket to the CI Financial Aid Team requesting a Pell reversal, including the student's name, ID, disbursement amount, and aid year.
- The Portico Refund Team will process the reversal. Timing may depend on when the weekly cancel report was last run.
- Confirm the reversal in Campus Ivy and ensure the associated COD record is updated.
Scenario 2: New R2T4 Regulations Effective July 1, 2026
Updated R2T4 regulations take effect July 1, 2026. Schools have asked whether these changes affect their calculation processes.
Programs not affected: Credit hour non-term programs and trimester programs are not subject to the new R2T4 regulations. Schools whose programs fall exclusively into these categories do not need to make changes to their R2T4 processes.
Programs that may be affected: Clock-hour programs and term-based programs (semester or quarter) should consult with their CI Financial Aid advisor to confirm whether the new regulations change their calculation methodology.
If you are unsure whether your program type is affected, submit a ticket to the CI Financial Aid Team specifying your program structure (credit hours vs. clock hours, term vs. non-term) and the team will advise.
