Portico Financial Aid Release Notes - July 2026

Portico Financial Aid's July 2026 release delivers a key COD compliance update for Direct Loan disbursements, expands verification automation, and introduces the Student Cross-Walk — a major step toward unified student identity across your systems. It also includes integration improvements for Populi users and offers an early look at automated program setup from Portico SIS.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

COD Compliance Update: Direct Loan Enrollment Status Improvements

Staying ahead of COD's June 2026 requirements, automatically.

What It Is

Portico's CORE financial aid software now automatically includes the Enrollment Status Effective Date on all new Direct Loan disbursements, properly handling Withdrawn and Leave of Absence enrollment statuses for both new and maintenance Direct Loan records. These changes align CORE with updated COD (Common Origination and Disbursement) requirements from the June 2026 COD release.

Who It's For

Financial aid offices at institutions submitting Direct Loan disbursements through CORE.

Problem Solved

COD's June release introduced new requirements around Enrollment Status Effective Date and how Withdrawn/Leave of Absence statuses are handled on Direct Loan records. Without these updates, schools risked incorrect loan limit exception determinations for affected students.

Why It Matters

Your institution stays ahead of COD compliance requirements with no manual action required. Students with Withdrawn or Leave of Absence statuses can now be processed correctly for post-withdrawal disbursements, and the risk of incorrect loan limit exception determinations is reduced.

Details

This update is automatic — no configuration is needed on your end. Reach out to your Portico Financial Aid processing representative for more details.

Verification Auto-Clearance

Clearing straightforward verification cases automatically.

*This feature is now available to Portico Managed Services teams. Direct client use is coming soon.

What It Is

CORE will be able to automatically identify and clear certain verification records — V1 records where the student is not required to produce tax documentation — without manual review from your financial aid staff. When a student meets a defined set of eligibility criteria, the system processes the verification from start to finish and moves the record to 'Complete' automatically.

Who It's For

Support staff working with clients on CORE's service model.

Problem Solved

Every triggered verification record has historically required staff review, even for straightforward, low-risk cases — consuming time that could go toward more complex files.

Why It Matters

This reduces the manual workload on your FA team for straightforward, low-risk verification cases and speeds up the clearance process for eligible students. Every automated action is timestamped and attributed for audit purposes, giving you a clear record without the manual effort.

Student Identity Cross-Walk

One unified view of every student ID, across every system.

What It Is

CORE now tracks and surfaces all known student IDs across different systems and platforms in a single, unified view: the Student Cross-Walk. As institutions work across multiple SIS platforms and integration partners, students can end up with different IDs in different systems. This update ensures CORE knows every ID associated with a student, so the right student is always identified regardless of which system a record originates from. This is part of a longer-term effort to build toward a unified student identity model — a single “golden key” that works seamlessly across all the platforms your institution relies on. It is foundational infrastructure rather than a short-term fix.

Who It's For

Institutions using Portico's FA CORE software alongside multiple SIS platforms or third-party integration partners, such as payment processors.

Problem Solved

Differing student IDs across systems can prevent a student from being matched correctly, creating risk as your integration ecosystem grows.

Why It Matters

This prevents situations where a student cannot be matched across systems due to differing IDs, and ensures disbursements, awards, and records flow correctly even during SIS transitions — laying the groundwork for seamless, cross-platform student identity as your institution and integration ecosystem grows.

Details

For integration partners and technical teams: the relevant API endpoints have been updated with the new StudentCrossWalk attribute. Swagger documentation is being updated to reflect these changes.

Populi V2 Award Historic Sync

Carrying your award history forward, cleanly.

What It Is

For institutions using the Populi integration, CORE now supports a one-time historic sync of existing awards and disbursements through the Populi V2 API, ensuring all prior award and disbursement history is carried forward cleanly when your institution transitions to the updated Populi V2 integration.

Who It's For

Institutions currently using CORE's Populi integration that have existing award and disbursement history prior to enabling Populi V2.

Problem Solved

Transitioning to an updated integration risked leaving historical award and disbursement data behind.

Why It Matters

No historical data is lost during your transition to Populi V2, and your team can move to the updated integration with confidence that your records are complete and accurate.

Program Records from Portico SIS

Building toward automatic program setup from Portico SIS. Coming Soon.

What It Is

We are in the process of building the connections that will let the Portico Student Information System (formerly Verity Student) automatically push draft program records into CORE. Our internal financial aid team will review the drafts, complete the FA-specific fields, and promote them to a live program — no manual data entry required for the SIS-sourced fields.

Who It's For

Institutions that will be onboarding with both Portico SIS and Portico FA (CORE).

Problem Solved

Program setup has required duplicate data entry between Portico SIS and CORE.

Why It Matters

This eliminates duplicate data entry, ensures SIS-sourced data stays locked and consistent so your team only needs to fill in financial aid-specific details, and speeds up the program setup process during onboarding and ongoing operations.

Details

An announcement will be delivered once the full functionality is in place, as part of the natural implementation process.
