Portico Attendance & SmartNudges Release Notes - August 2025
This month, we are highlighting new features that help you and your staff save time, enforce policies consistently, and improve student engagement while using Portico's Attendance, SmartNudges, and Payments solutions (formerly CourseKey).
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Restrict Late Check-in
A new delivery method configuration gives the clients the ability to block students from checking into class after the tardy grace period.
What Is It
A new Block Check-in setting that automatically marks students absent and prevents check-ins after the tardy grace period ends.
Who It's For
Instructors, administrators, compliance teams.
Problem Solved
Inconsistent attendance enforcement; manual corrections and policy compliance.
Why It Matters
Helps institutions enforce attendance policies consistently, reduce administrative workload, and ensure accurate attendance data for reporting and compliance.
Details
- New Block Check-in option in delivery method settings (True/False).
- If enabled, students cannot check in after the tardy grace period expires.
- Automatic absence marking—no manual action required.
- Pop-up message explains to students why they can’t check in with the current time for visibility.
Student Notes & Automations: Anthology Integration
Push Portico (CourseKey) notes and automations into Anthology’s Student Contact Manager, so staff see the full story in one place.
What Is It
A one-way sync that posts Smart Nudges + Payment Automations from Portico into Anthology twice daily (covering the last 3 days)
Who It's For
Anthology SIS Clients - Campus admins, faculty/program staff, compliance, and Client Success teams.
Problem Solved
Manual re-entry, scattered context, and inconsistent visibility of student outreach/history across systems.
Why It Matters
Keeps Anthology as the system of record, improves auditability/compliance, and reduces operational effort by surfacing Portico activity where staff already work.
Details
- “CourseKey Student Notification”: Posts Smart Nudge + Payments events with UTC timestamp, User, Channel, Title, and Note
- Sync cadence: Runs twice per day and includes items created in the past 3 days (from enablement forward).
