Overview
Schools that use a Student Information System (SIS) integration with Campus Ivy rely on an API key to authenticate the data exchange between the two systems. This API key expires annually and must be renewed to avoid disruption to enrollment, grade, and financial aid data feeds.
How the Renewal Process Works
Approximately one week before your API key expires, the Portico Integration Team will proactively contact your school and your SIS or integration vendor with:
- The new API key
- The activation date (the day the new key is issued)
- The new expiration date (one year from activation)
Your school and vendor do not need to generate or request the new key — Portico generates it and distributes it directly.
Steps for Your SIS or Integration Vendor
- Receive the new key from the Portico Integration Team email.
- Update the API key in your SIS integration configuration. The exact location varies by SIS — contact your SIS vendor if you are unsure where to enter the new key.
- Test the connection — After updating, confirm that a token is successfully retrieved. Your vendor should notify Portico once the update is complete and tested.
- Monitor for disruptions — If data is not flowing as expected after the key update, contact the CI Integration Team immediately.
What Happens If the Key Is Not Updated Before Expiration
If the API key expires before the new key is applied, the integration will stop transmitting data between the SIS and Campus Ivy. This can affect enrollment updates, grade postings, and financial aid packaging. Contact the CI Integration Team urgently if this occurs so a new key can be issued and the connection restored.
