Overview
The location column in student time records can display coordinates, an IP address, or appear blank, and may be highlighted in pink or yellow. This article explains what each state means and how to interpret the data correctly.
Where to Find Full Location Detail
The most complete location information is available on the All Time Records page in your admin view. The standard attendance view may show less detail.
What the Location Column Means
Blank, No Color Highlight
The device used to clock in does not have GPS capabilities. Desktop computers typically do not have GPS. Tablets and laptops vary. This is expected behavior and does not indicate an error.
Coordinates Shown, No Color Highlight
The student used a GPS-capable device, allowed Trajecsys to capture location, and was within the boundaries of the assigned clinical site. No action needed.
Coordinates Shown, Pink Highlight
The student used a GPS-capable device and allowed location capture, but the recorded coordinates do not match the assigned site location. This indicates a potential location discrepancy and may warrant follow-up with the student.
No Coordinates, Yellow Highlight
The student's device is GPS-capable, but the student denied Trajecsys permission to capture their location. Direct the student to the article on resolving GPS location warnings so they can reset their device settings.
IP Address vs. GPS Coordinates
If the value shown in the location column looks like a number string rather than a latitude/longitude pair (e.g., 192.168.x.x), it is an IP address, not a GPS coordinate. This typically occurs when a device without true GPS capability connects via a network. Navigate to the All Time Records page to see the full breakdown and determine which type of data was captured.
